JD.com, a prominent Chinese e-commerce company, has introduced its latest Joybuy platform in the United Kingdom to compete with major players like Amazon. The company, valued at £30 billion, offers a wide range of products including technology, appliances, beauty items, groceries, and other essentials. Notable brands available on Joybuy include Apple, LEGO, Samsung, and L’Oréal.
In a bid to enhance customer experience, Joybuy now provides next-day delivery for orders exceeding £29 in London and several other cities, catering to a total population of 17 million. Additionally, they offer a same-day delivery service named “Double 11” for orders placed before 11 am, ensuring delivery by 11 pm. The company has set up its own logistics infrastructure with distribution centers in Milton Keynes and Luton.
JD.com’s expansion into the UK market follows its withdrawal from negotiations to acquire major British retail brands in recent years. Although talks to purchase Currys in 2024 and Argos from Sainsbury’s in September were unsuccessful, the company remains committed to establishing a long-term presence in the UK. Managing Director of Joybuy UK, Matthew Nobbs, expressed confidence in the business’s growth prospects and emphasized the importance of providing an excellent customer experience.
Furthermore, JD.com is planning to launch in other European countries such as Germany, the Netherlands, France, Belgium, and Luxembourg. The company sealed a significant 2.2 billion euro (£1.9 billion) deal to acquire the Germany-based electronics retail group Ceconomy last year.
