I Am Maximus emerged victorious at the 2026 Grand National, completing the race in 9 minutes and 9.68 seconds. This achievement marks the second consecutive win for the horse owned by JP McManus, placing alongside Tiger Roll as a two-time champion at this prestigious racing event.
The triumph also solidifies McManus’s status as the most successful owner in the history of the Grand National, with a total of four wins. Trainer Willie Mullins, who led Nick Rockett to victory last year, secured his second back-to-back win at the event.
Paul Townend, who has now secured a Gold Cup and Grand National double this season, expressed admiration for I Am Maximus, highlighting the horse’s resilience and exceptional performance. Mullins praised the horse’s impressive ride and decision to focus on the Aintree race rather than pursuing the Gold Cup route.
