The price of a TV Licence increased to £174.50 in April 2025, affecting many individuals and businesses that watch live TV or access BBC iPlayer. However, certain individuals, such as those in residential care or sheltered accommodation, may qualify for a discounted licence priced at £7.50 if they meet specific criteria.

According to the UK Government, eligible individuals living in residential care homes, supported housing, or sheltered accommodation can obtain a £7.50 TV Licence, with their housing manager assisting in the application process.

Additionally, discounts and options are available for registered blind individuals and those receiving Pension Credit from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP). Pension Credit is a means-tested benefit for individuals over the State Pension age with low income, potentially increasing weekly income to £227.10 for singles or £346.60 for couples.

Individuals receiving Pension Credit can apply for a free TV Licence when they turn 74, transitioning to the free licence at the start of the month they turn 75. Moreover, individuals registered as blind or living with a blind person can secure a 50% discount on their TV Licence, reducing the cost to £87.25 for a color licence.

For further details, individuals can visit the official GOV.UK website or the TV Licensing website. The annual TV Licence fee saw a 2.9% hike announced by the Secretary of State in 2024, effective from April 1, 2025, in line with annual CPI inflation. This increment raised the yearly color licence fee to £174.50, while the black-and-white licence now costs £58.50 annually.

Future increases in the licence fee will be linked to CPI inflation until 2027. To stay updated on money-saving tips and consumer news, visit the Everything Money website.
