Stephen McGann recently discussed the upcoming Call the Midwife movie and his personal life with his co-star wife. The popular BBC period drama has returned with a new series, featuring Stephen reprising his role as Doctor Patrick Turner.

Since his debut on the show in 2012, the 62-year-old actor has been captivating audiences with his portrayal of the heroic doctor in the impoverished setting of London’s Poplar. Dr. Turner has been a source of hope, saving lives, aiding in childbirth, and touching viewers’ hearts in every episode.

The long-running BBC series is now in its fifteenth season, set in 1971, introducing new storylines reflecting the Women’s Liberation movement, premature births, cancer diagnoses, and other relevant themes of the era. Looking ahead, a sixteenth series has been confirmed, along with a prequel set in World War II-era Poplar and a movie set in 1972.

Stephen shared insights into the forthcoming Call the Midwife film during an appearance on The One Show. He teased details about the storyline set in 1972 and hinted at familiar characters making appearances in the movie. The actor also humorously mentioned his wife’s involvement in the show’s creative process and the occasional challenges of working together.

Stephen and Heidi Thomas, the show’s creator, have been married since 1990, meeting through a play audition in 1988. They have a son named Dominic. Call the Midwife airs on BBC One and iPlayer, while The One Show can be watched on weekdays on the same platforms.
