Iran has experienced a significant number of casualties since the unrest began on December 28, escalating into a violent crackdown by Iranian authorities. Ayatollah Khamenei accused the US President of supporting the seditious individuals involved in the revolt and seeking to dominate Iran’s economic and political resources. He labeled the US President as a criminal due to the damages and casualties incurred during the protests.

Describing the protesters as “foot soldiers” of the United States, Ayatollah Khamenei accused them of destroying mosques and educational centers. He attributed the deaths of “several thousand” individuals to those involved in the civil unrest. The protests initially sparked concerns about the struggling economy as the government moved to end currency subsidies, leading to a surge in prices amidst high inflation.

Reports indicate varying death tolls, with figures suggesting up to 10,000 fatalities, marking the deadliest unrest since the 1979 revolution. President Trump criticized Ayatollah Khamenei’s leadership, calling for new leadership in Iran and condemning the ongoing violence. However, he later acknowledged Iran’s decision to cancel planned executions, hinting at a potential shift away from military action.

Ayatollah Khamenei claimed that rioters were armed with imported live ammunition and emphasized Iran’s stance against domestic and international offenders. The country has now returned to a fragile calm following the suppression of protests. Iranian officials have accused the US and Israel of instigating unrest, with no recent signs of fresh protests in Tehran. The city has resumed normal activities, indicating a temporary lull in the turmoil.
