Coronation Street character Debbie Webster recently stunned viewers with a revelation about a secret child, but what about the actress Sue Devaney’s own family life? Sue has been a part of the popular ITV show since 1984, portraying Debbie, the sister of Kevin. After a hiatus, she returned to the show in 2019.
Despite her character’s popularity, Debbie has faced challenges on the show, including a diagnosis of young-onset vascular dementia in the past year. In a recent episode, she was involved in a dramatic multi-vehicle crash that led to the death of Billy Hayhew.
Following the crash, Debbie found herself in legal trouble and made a surprising confession in court, revealing a hidden connection to her brother Carl. Away from the soap opera, Sue’s life is far less dramatic. She is happily married to BBC journalist Jim O’Farrell, with whom she tied the knot in 2024 after a three-year engagement ceremony in Skipton, North Yorkshire.
Sue shared the joyous news with her Instagram followers, highlighting the intimate celebration with loved ones. Despite her on-screen family drama, Sue does not have children of her own and has candidly expressed her thoughts on motherhood in interviews. She values simplicity and focuses on her relationship with her partner, sister, and niece outside of her acting career.
“Coronation Street” airs Monday to Friday on ITV1 and ITVX.
