Former President Donald Trump has issued a concerning message, urging readiness for a “day of retribution” in Minnesota. Despite widespread criticism of ICE’s tactics in the state, Trump has reaffirmed his decision to deploy more agents, particularly targeting Somali Americans, the majority of whom are US citizens.
In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump questioned the presence of convicted criminals, drug offenders, rapists, and individuals from foreign institutions in Minnesota communities. He defended ICE’s actions, emphasizing the agency’s goal of removing dangerous individuals from neighborhoods and sending them back to their places of origin.
Contrary to Trump’s claims, the Somali American community in Minnesota, with about 95% being US citizens through naturalization or birth, has been the focus of ICE operations. Among the Somali population not born in the US, approximately 62% have resided in the country for over a decade. Only a small percentage, estimated at fewer than 1,000, are illegal migrants.
Despite reports of around 3,000 ICE agents sent to Minnesota during Trump’s administration, the ratio of agents to potential deportees raises questions. Trump boasted about reducing crime in various places, including Chicago, and criticized Minnesota Democrats for allegedly benefiting from unrest caused by anarchists and agitators.
In a final ominous declaration, Trump assured the people of Minnesota that a “day of reckoning and retribution” is on the horizon.
