A tragic incident unfolded as a young woman lost her life in Colombia after a tour guide’s misjudgment on the final day of her vacation. Yudi Alexandra Castellanos Solano, a 21-year-old aspiring architect, was with her family and friends at a scenic spot, accompanied by a guide for a waterfall tour.
The tour guide decided to turn back due to the challenging river conditions, deeming it unsafe to proceed. Tragically, as they were heading back, Yudi fell into the river and was swept away. A search operation ensued, leading to the discovery of her body approximately 2.5 miles downstream in the Güejar River within the Sierra de la Macarena National Park.
Expressing dissatisfaction with the search operation, Yudi’s family criticized the lack of proper equipment and expertise among the initial responders. Colonel Jorge Díaz highlighted the challenging terrain of the area where the incident occurred, known as Salto de Canoa, situated in dense woodland.
The family also raised concerns about the travel company’s decision to provide only one tour guide for the group. An investigation into the circumstances surrounding Yudi’s tragic death is ongoing. Yudi, a recent graduate from Santo Tomás University in Bogotá, was described by a university spokesperson as a promising architect embarking on her professional journey.
In a separate incident, a British tourist lost his life in a popular Greek holiday resort when he was found unresponsive in the waters off Rhodes. Despite efforts to revive him, the 57-year-old man was pronounced dead at the hospital. Authorities are conducting an investigation into the incident, with an autopsy planned to determine the exact cause of death.
