A man is currently hospitalized with severe burns following an incident where his wife allegedly poured hot oil on him while he was sleeping, then proceeded to sprinkle red chilli powder on the burned areas.
The victim, Dinesh Kumar, was asleep with his wife Sadhna and their daughter when he was abruptly awoken by excruciating pain on his face and torso. He recounted that Sadhna was standing over him with a container of hot oil and issued a threat, warning him not to scream or she would pour more oil on him. The attack occurred around 3:15 am at their residence in Dehli, India. Neighbors heard Dinesh’s screams and attempted to offer assistance, but the couple did not respond. Eventually, the landlord contacted Dinesh’s brother-in-law, Ram Sagar, who arranged for him to be taken to the hospital.
Witnesses reported hearing Dinesh’s cries for help on the day of the incident. Anjali, the landlord’s daughter, mentioned that they found Dinesh severely burnt, with him claiming that his wife had poured hot oil and chilli powder on him. The couple had been living in the same house for approximately seven months.
Dinesh sustained severe injuries and had to be transferred from a local hospital to Safdarjung Hospital in New Dehli for specialized care. Police confirmed the seriousness of his wounds based on medical assessments.
Authorities have initiated an investigation into the incident at Ambedkar Nagar police station, gathering statements from Dinesh and collecting initial evidence. Sadhna has not been detained as the inquiry is still in its initial phases.
Reports indicated that the couple had a history of conflicts throughout their eight-year marriage, with previous police involvement in their disputes. Allegedly, an argument ensued between them on the night of the reported assault. Kumar informed the police that he returned home from work, had dinner, and then went to bed.
During the investigation, it was revealed that Sadhna had previously filed a complaint against her husband at the Crime Against Women (CAW) Cell two years ago, which was resolved. However, she lodged another complaint a few weeks before the recent incident.
