The union representing WestJet cabin crew has disclosed details of the tentative agreement made with the Calgary-based airline following a one-day strike. The Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) has announced that the deal encompasses an over 18% salary increase spread over three years and introduces a new “duty period premium” to compensate for ground duties. Additionally, the agreement involves extended time off, enhanced food and uniform allowances, and other benefits.
During a prolonged holiday weekend, WestJet flights across a significant part of Canada were grounded as 4,400 flight attendants were poised to strike, leading to operational disruptions. However, a tentative resolution was reached between the airline and the union early on Monday, resulting in a gradual return to normal operations for WestJet.
The cabin crew members are scheduled to vote on the agreement in the upcoming weeks to finalize the deal.
