Virgin Media has recently slashed the price of its fastest broadband offering to a new all-time low. The company has introduced an unexpected sale, reducing the cost of its ultra-fast Gig1 Fibre Broadband by over £70.
The Gig1 plan boasts speeds of up to 1,130Mbps and typically costs £29.99 per month. However, it is now available at a discounted rate of £26.99, translating to a total saving of £72 over the 24-month contract, which averages out to approximately 87p per day.
Virgin claims that this current promotion represents the “lowest ever price” for its Gig1 plan. With these blazing-fast speeds, users can download a feature-length HD movie in under 30 seconds and have a 50GB PS5 game ready to play in less than seven minutes.
While households with 70Mbps speeds may experience download times of over 90 minutes for the same game, Virgin’s Gig1 plan ensures a seamless experience for activities like streaming Netflix and online gaming, as reported by the Express.
It’s important to note that the discounted rate of £26.99 will increase twice within the minimum term, rising to £30.99 from April 2027 and £34.99 from April 2028. Additionally, the 1,130Mbps speeds may not be available in all UK locations, so it is advisable to check availability using Virgin’s postcode checker.
Compared to competitors like Sky, which reduced its comparable 900Mbps plan to £28, Virgin’s £26.99 Gig1 deal offers better value and faster speeds. BT, on the other hand, charges £37.99 for access to its 900Mbps connection. It may be worthwhile to explore alternative network providers, including emerging alt-nets that often provide competitive pricing.
Community Fibre, for instance, is currently offering 1Gbps speeds at £25 per month, with the first three months free and fixed prices throughout the contract. However, this provider’s services are limited to London and select south-east locations.
When choosing a broadband plan, it’s essential to consider individual needs. For a couple streaming Netflix daily, speeds around 100Mbps should suffice, while larger households engaging in remote work, downloading content, and online gaming may require at least 300Mbps for optimal performance.
Opting for Virgin’s 1Gbps fibre broadband is akin to having a high-speed motorway directly into your home, ensuring a smooth and efficient online experience.
