Virgin Media is set to introduce a significant update to its TV platform, aiming to enhance the user experience by simplifying content discovery. The telecoms company announced these changes through a blog post, highlighting the transition to a more visually oriented search function.
Currently, Virgin’s search feature presents results in a standard list format, but the upcoming update will showcase vibrant images instead. The company confirmed that improvements are underway for both the Stream box and Virgin TV 360.
Gone are the days of mundane search results resembling exam cramming sessions; Virgin has revamped its search functionality to deliver image-based results, streamlining the process of finding desired content. Whether users type their search queries or utilize the voice search feature, they will now be presented with visual tiles displaying relevant results.
The update will automatically roll out to devices such as the 360 and Stream boxes without requiring any additional action from users. Virgin assured that the transition will occur seamlessly, requiring no manual intervention from customers.
This upgrade is designed to expedite content discovery, reducing the time spent channel surfing. Virgin’s search function enables users to search for specific shows, movies, genres, and even actors. By simply pressing the magnifying glass button on the remote control and entering a few letters, users can access the Smart Search feature. Alternatively, holding down the microphone button on the remote and speaking the show’s name will also yield search results.
To maximize the new search capabilities, users can try various search queries with their remote control, such as looking for shows related to “John Wick,” feel-good movies, reality TV programs, or live sports events scheduled for the evening.
