Virgin Media emerges as the top choice for households seeking top-notch broadband performance, reliability, and consistent service quality, according to the latest findings by Opensignal. The UK Internet Service Provider (ISP) clinched victory in all tested categories, including Download Speed, Upload Speed, Video Experience, and Consistent Quality.
Principal Analyst Andrey Popov noted, “Amid the UK’s ongoing shift to full-fibre networks, Virgin Media stands out with the most comprehensive broadband experience across all measured aspects.” Popov highlighted Virgin’s upgraded cable-to-fibre network as a distinguishing factor, surpassing providers relying mainly on the Openreach wholesale platform. Virgin excelled notably in Download Speed (187.8Mbps) and Reliability Experience (747 points).
Taking the second spot overall is Vodafone, demonstrating strong performance across the board. Vodafone’s advantage lies in its dual-network approach, operating on both the Openreach and CityFibre networks, a strategy uncommon among broadband providers.
Other notable ISPs include BT, ranking third in Consistent Quality and Download Speed categories, and Sky, recognized for its Video Experience, securing the second position in this area.
On the lower end of the spectrum, Three lands at the bottom of the rankings due to the lowest scores in Consistent Quality, Upload Speed, Video Experience, and Reliability Experience. TalkTalk also faces challenges in download speeds, averaging 55.1Mbps, significantly lower than Virgin’s impressive score of over 180Mbps.
