Oleksandr Usyk has provided a significant boost to Tyson Fury by announcing his intention to continue fighting for another two years. Earlier in the year, the 38-year-old outlined his retirement plan, indicating that he had two more fights left before retiring. In a remarkable feat back in July, Usyk knocked out Daniel Dubois in front of a massive crowd of over 90,000 at Wembley Stadium, securing the undisputed heavyweight championship for the second time in his career.

Following his recent victory, Usyk is taking the remainder of the year off to spend quality time with his family before returning to the ring in 2026. Despite turning 39 in January, he was mandated to defend his WBO title against Joseph Parker post the Dubois fight or face losing the belt. However, the bout has been postponed due to medical reasons, with Usyk’s team successfully obtaining a 90-day extension.

In a statement to UNN, the Ukrainian heavyweight champion disclosed that he has resumed training in preparation for his comeback next year. Expressing his determination, Usyk mentioned, “I train daily with the goal of stepping back into the ring next year and emerging victorious with the help of God.” Additionally, he reversed his previous decision to retire at 41, now planning to establish a sports academy and continue coaching after his boxing career.

Fury, who initially announced his retirement earlier in the year after consecutive losses to Usyk, later declared a surprising comeback scheduled for the upcoming year. With Fury gearing up for his return in 2026, his promoter Frank Warren indicated that the heavyweight boxer is eager to resume his career and potentially face Usyk once again. Despite speculations about a showdown with Anthony Joshua, Warren emphasized that Fury’s primary focus remains on a rematch with Usyk.

The upcoming boxing event between Kieron Conway and George Liddard is set to take place on Friday, October 17, at York Hall, Bethnal Green. The undercard will commence around 7pm UK time, with the headline fight expected to start at approximately 10pm UK time. Viewers can catch all the live action on DAZN, a popular streaming platform accessible through various devices with subscription options ranging from monthly to annual plans.
