A man accused of the torture and murder of a British woman who had traveled to the US to end her life reportedly made shocking phone calls to his wife from prison, according to records.
Sonia Exelby’s body was discovered in a wooded area in Marion Oaks, Florida, after she failed to board her return flight to the UK on October 13. The 32-year-old from Portsmouth, Hampshire, had arrived in Tallahessee to meet Dwain Hall, whom she had been communicating with online through a fetish website.
Concerned friends immediately feared for Sonia’s safety, knowing her struggles with mental health, as evidence on her computer suggested she had suicidal intentions and had traveled to the US to face potential abuse, torture, and even murder.
Following the recovery of Sonia’s remains from a shallow grave, Florida police arrested Dwain Hall on charges of first-degree murder and kidnapping. Reports reveal that Hall has been making multiple phone calls and video visits from Marion County Jail, including a troubling conversation with his wife, Ginger Stein.
During the conversation, Hall expressed remorse, mentioning financial struggles as a motive for his actions. He also confessed to taking money from Sonia and manipulating her into recording messages and writing a letter to her family under his control.
Tragically, it seems Sonia may have regretted her decision but was trapped in a frightening situation. Video footage shows Hall pressuring Sonia, who appeared distressed and hesitant, to consent to disturbing requests, including her desire to be stabbed.
Additionally, messages Sonia sent to a friend indicated her fear and desperation to escape the situation, revealing the extent of her distress and powerlessness.
In a subsequent call from jail, Hall attempted to justify his actions, claiming he acted out of compassion and love. However, evidence linking him to the use of Sonia’s credit cards and the disturbing circumstances of Sonia’s death point to a darker reality.
An autopsy report confirmed that Sonia had been brutally stabbed multiple times, leading to her tragic death. The report detailed severe injuries sustained by Sonia and ruled her death as a homicide.
Hall’s defense attorney stated that he maintains his innocence and will continue to remain silent regarding the allegations until further evidence is disclosed. The legal proceedings are ongoing, with Hall expected to appear in court in February.
