Police in the United Kingdom have handled over 3,000 protests during the summer months, characterized by what a senior police officer described as a growing atmosphere of tension and division. Data from the National Police Chiefs’ Council revealed that there were 3,081 protests held in June, July, and August across England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland. This number marked an increase from the previous summer, which saw 2,942 protests, and a significant surge from 2023 when only 928 protests were recorded.
Gavin Stephens, Chairman of the National Police Chiefs’ Council, highlighted the challenges faced by police officers in managing these protests, particularly those occurring at migrant hotels.
