The current administration was elected to assist families in managing living expenses, a commitment we are fully dedicated to fulfilling. The recent rise in energy costs is a significant concern for households nationwide, stemming from a 75% increase in wholesale gas prices since the Ukraine conflict began. This surge in prices is a direct consequence of our reliance on fossil fuels controlled by petrostates and authoritarian regimes.
To address this issue, the government’s primary objective is to transition to domestic clean energy sources. By promoting the installation of solar panels, wind turbines, and making informed decisions on nuclear energy, we aim to reduce our dependence on fossil fuels and regain control over our energy production.
In line with our efforts to lower energy costs sustainably, we are implementing measures to support families financially. Through initiatives like the Warm Home Discount, nearly three million families will receive a £150 reduction in their bills this winter, with a total of six million benefiting overall. Furthermore, our upcoming Warm Homes Plan will focus on upgrading five million homes nationwide to enhance energy efficiency and reduce expenses for residents, including renters in various housing types.
In addition, the Great British Energy program is actively helping 200 local schools and 200 hospitals cut energy expenses by installing solar panels, freeing up funds for essential services. This contrasts starkly with the policies of our opponents, who seek to hinder our clean energy plans, perpetuating reliance on fossil fuels and jeopardizing energy security.
Our administration remains committed to supporting the working population by implementing measures such as raising the minimum wage, expanding transportation subsidies, and enhancing access to school meals and breakfast clubs. We are dedicated to advocating for working individuals and will persist in our efforts to achieve our goals in energy affordability and security.
