A trainer, in charge of only two horses, achieved a significant victory alongside his jockey brother as Oscars Brother triumphed in the Boodles Florida Pearl Novice Chase at Punchestown. The race featured contenders from top stables in Ireland like Gordon Elliott and Henry de Bromhead, as well as Rocky’s Diamond, who finished fourth in the 2025 Stayers’ Hurdle.
Despite the strong competition, Connor King, the handler, led Oscars Brother to victory with his brother Daniel guiding the seven-year-old around the County Kildare track. Maintaining a front-running position, Oscars Brother, the 7-4 favorite, delivered an impressive performance with precise jumps, crossing the finish line three lengths ahead of Koktail Divin from De Bromhead’s stable.
Preparing for the three-mile race on soft to heavy ground, Oscars Brother had a warm-up in a novice chase at Galway. Now, the duo aims to elevate their status with a potential Grade One horse in their stable, which currently houses only one other racehorse in training.
Expressing his delight, Daniel shared with Racing TV, “It’s class riding a winner for my brother. He’s a fantastic horse for my brother to train and for me to ride. Despite the small field, it was a competitive race. Our horse is showing improvement, and we believed that if he stepped up, he would have a chance.”
Looking ahead, Connor, a former jockey, mentioned the possibility of targeting the Grade One Faugheen Novices’ Chase at Limerick during the Christmas period. Reflecting on Oscars Brother’s progress, he noted, “He excelled in hurdles, and we always had hopes for him as a chaser. I recall last year’s race with just three participants and thought it would be a great goal to set our sights on.”
