An 11-year-old girl passed away following an incident where she was discovered unresponsive in a hotel pool in Fuerteventura, as revealed during a coroner’s court session. The girl, Francesca Mae Blease, hailing from Crewe, Cheshire, was found in the swimming pool on August 7, according to statements made during an inquest opening on Wednesday.
Coroner’s officer Paul Downey mentioned that Francesca was swiftly transported to a hospital in Gran Canaria, where she unfortunately succumbed on August 8 after her life support was deactivated. Coroner Victoria Davies deemed it necessary to officially commence an inquest due to the unnatural circumstances surrounding the death. The complete inquest is scheduled to take place on January 27.
Gran Canaria, the third-largest among the Canary Islands archipelago, known for its location off the Atlantic coast of north-west Africa, is a renowned tourist spot. In 2024 alone, around one million British tourists flocked to this popular destination.
