A woman tragically passed away after being attacked by a cluster of bees in Ballycastle, Ballina, Ireland. The incident occurred on Monday evening, prompting emergency services to respond at approximately 5:40 pm. The woman, aged in her 70s, was airlifted to the hospital but unfortunately succumbed to her injuries. Another woman in her 40s also received medical attention for non-life-threatening wounds.
Authorities confirmed the woman’s death in a statement, mentioning that a post-mortem examination will be conducted to guide the ongoing investigation. The local coroner has been notified of the incident.
In a separate incident last year, a six-year-old boy survived a bee attack in Sidrolandia, Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil, where he was stung over 1,100 times. The boy, accompanied by his stepfather, was rushed to the hospital in a coma but has since shown remarkable recovery progress. According to the boy’s father, the child has been successfully weaned off mechanical ventilation and is steadily improving.
Toxicologist Sandro Benites emphasized the critical role of immediate medical attention in saving the boy’s life, noting that such a high number of bee stings could be fatal without prompt intervention.
