A woman in her late 20s passed away shortly after undergoing a Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) as a birthday gift to herself. Marilha Menezes Antunes underwent surgery that included liposuction on her back and fat transfer to her buttocks at a private clinic in Brazil. Her family members, including her father and sister Léa Carolina, were present during the procedure. Léa recalled hearing urgent calls for an ambulance, and despite efforts to resuscitate Marilha, she tragically did not survive.

Initially, the doctor mentioned bronchoaspiration and cardiorespiratory arrest as the causes of death, but a subsequent autopsy revealed that Marilha died from hypovolemic shock, internal bleeding, and blunt-force trauma. Her relatives claim Marilha was in good health, had followed medical advice, completed all necessary pre-surgical tests, and believe that a punctured organ led to fatal hemorrhaging. They are now seeking clarification from the clinic in Rio de Janeiro.

Describing Marilha as vibrant and full of life, Léa expressed deep sorrow at the turn of events, stating that she had hoped to fulfill her sister’s dream but instead faced tragedy. The clinic defended its position, explaining that it operates as a day hospital with a rented surgical center used by independent medical teams. They asserted that the facility is fully equipped to handle emergencies and that the medical team responded promptly upon detecting signs of instability during the procedure.

Marilha, a mother to a six-year-old boy and an occupational safety technician at an aviation company, is the subject of an ongoing investigation. The clinic, known as AMACOR, has pledged full cooperation with authorities in the inquiry.
