Toto Wolff believes that Lewis Hamilton’s final years with Ferrari will not be the highlight of his career. Hamilton, who is 40 years old, is currently concluding his time in Formula 1 with the Italian team, aiming to secure an eighth drivers’ title before retiring.
However, the likelihood of achieving this feat seems slim as Hamilton has faced challenges in his first season with Ferrari. Despite winning a sprint race in Shanghai earlier this year, he is yet to reach the F1 podium with the team.
Hamilton’s reputation as one of the greatest drivers in the sport is already established. He stands alongside Michael Schumacher as the only other seven-time champion, boasting 105 Grand Prix victories, surpassing Schumacher’s record by 14 wins.
Most of Hamilton’s success came during his 12 seasons with Mercedes, where he clinched six additional titles after joining the team in 2013. Toto Wolff, his long-time team principal, believes Hamilton’s legacy is secure, comparing his current struggle at Ferrari to Schumacher’s winless period with Mercedes at the end of his F1 career.
Wolff emphasized that Hamilton’s legacy will not be defined by his time at Ferrari and pointed out that a change of environment was necessary for both Hamilton and Mercedes. Despite Hamilton’s challenges adapting to his new team, Wolff remains confident in his abilities as a top-tier driver.
