Ryan Moore is not expected to return to racing until next year, as confirmed by trainer Aidan O’Brien. The top jockey, who rides for O’Brien’s renowned Ballydoyle stable, has been out of action since early September due to a stress fracture of the femur. O’Brien initially stated that Moore faced an indefinite recovery period, leading to Christophe Soumillon stepping in as a replacement rider.

During Moore’s absence, Soumillon has achieved significant success, securing four Group 1 victories aboard Ballydoyle horses. Notable wins include the Irish Champion Stakes, Prix Marcel Boussac, Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere, and the Fillies’ Mile. Additionally, Soumillon guided Minnie Hauk to a close second in the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe.

On the upcoming Qipco British Champion’s Day at Ascot, Soumillon is set to ride for O’Brien in four Group 1 races. His mounts include Stay True in the Long Distance Cup, Bedtime Story in the Fillies & Mares, The Lion In Winter in the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes, and Delacroix in the Champion Stakes.

Despite Moore attending recent fixtures as a spectator, it appears that Soumillon will continue as the primary jockey for the remainder of 2025, including the upcoming Breeders’ Cup in November. O’Brien expressed confidence in Soumillon’s performance, stating that Moore is progressing well and hinting at a return next year for the 42-year-old jockey.

During a Champions Day media conference, O’Brien mentioned that Moore’s injury requires time for recovery, emphasizing a long-term approach over short-term considerations. Moore’s return date remains uncertain, with O’Brien indicating that it is likely to be in the following year.
