CBC’s reality series, “The Assembly,” is back for its second season, featuring six new celebrity interviews and a larger ensemble of over 30 neurodivergent and autistic adults as the interviewers. Among the notable guests facing the questions are actors Hudson Williams from “Heated Rivalry,” Zach Galifianakis of “The Hangover,” and Jay Baruchel from “This is the End.”
The upcoming season also includes appearances by Miss Universe Canada Ashley Callingbull, singer-songwriter Lights, and Olympic hockey gold medallist Marie-Philip Poulin. Each celebrity undergoes an unscripted interview where they tackle direct and unexpected questions, delving beyond typical promotional discourse to touch on personal and sometimes challenging topics.
The show’s appeal lies in its blend of returning and fresh faces among the interviewers, fostering candid discussions, awkward moments, humor, and genuine connections. Described as a platform for both revelations and laughter within the same dialogue, “The Assembly” adopts a format inspired by the French program “Les Rencontres du Papotin,” which featured notable guests like “Killing Eve” star Camille Cottin and French President Emmanuel Macron.
Building on the success of its first season, which garnered awards and nominations, CBC’s “The Assembly” continues to offer heartfelt, humorous, and authentic conversations in its new season. The series is produced by Vancouver-based Small Army Entertainment and premieres on Sunday, November 1, at 9 p.m. ET on CBC TV and CBC Gem, with extended “producer’s cuts” exclusively available on CBC Gem from 9 a.m. ET on the same day.
