Spider-Man: Brand New Day has achieved a remarkable feat in the movie industry by becoming the quickest film to reach $700 million in the North American box office. This milestone was reached in just 13 days, setting a new record. Only seven movies in North America have surpassed this mark, with examples such as Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Avengers: Endgame achieving it in 16 days.

This latest installment, a collaboration between Marvel and Sony, features Tom Holland reprising his role as Peter Parker for the fourth time. Alongside Holland is his real-life partner Zendaya, as well as popular Marvel Cinematic Universe characters like Jon Bernthal, Florence Pugh, Mark Ruffalo, and newcomer Sadie Sink. The storyline follows Peter Parker in a world where his identity as Spider-Man has been erased from everyone’s memory, leading to a struggle with loneliness and unpredictable powers.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day continues to break records globally, not only grossing $704.5 million in North America but also amassing $1.108 billion internationally within just two weekends of release. This surpasses the international earnings of its predecessor, No Way Home, which brought in $1.106 billion.

The movie’s success doesn’t end there. It has recently overtaken Avengers: Endgame for the biggest domestic opening weekend ever and achieved the highest-grossing first week in domestic box office history. Additionally, it holds the title of the second-fastest film to reach $1 billion globally, following closely behind Avengers: Endgame. Moreover, Spider-Man: Brand New Day has become Sony’s highest-grossing release in 26 international markets.

The film’s darker tone and engaging storyline have sparked discussions among viewers and critics about its direction and impact on the franchise’s established tone. Eli Glasner questions whether the movie is attempting to cover too much ground, potentially diluting the grounded essence of the narrative.
