Another cast member of Saturday Night Live has announced their departure from the popular late-night sketch show. This marks the fifth cast member to leave ahead of the upcoming season premiere.
Ego Nwodim, aged 37, disclosed that she will not be returning to the NBC show after joining the cast in 2018. In a statement, the comedian shared that it was her choice to exit the show after seven seasons and expressed gratitude to creator Lorne Michaels for the opportunity.
In a statement posted on Instagram, Ego expressed, “The hardest part of a great party is knowing when to say goodnight. But after seven unforgettable seasons, I have decided to leave SNL.” She further thanked Lorne Michaels, her castmates, writers, and crew for their support and friendship, stating that her time on the show taught her invaluable lessons that she will cherish.
Fans reacted with well wishes, some expressing sadness over her departure. One fan stated, “You will be greatly missed but can’t wait to see what’s ahead.” Another commented, “Gonna miss you so much ughhhh.” A third fan wrote, “You’ll be very very missed!!!!!”
Ego joins a list of departing stars, including Devon Walker, Emil Wakim, and Michael Longfellow. Reports also indicate that Heidi Gardner and the Please Don’t Destroy segment will not be returning for the new season.
The upcoming season of SNL is scheduled to kick off on October 4 in the US.
