Sky Q, a highly acclaimed set-top box, has garnered widespread recognition as one of the top devices in its category. Known for its exceptional features such as live TV recording, access to premium channels, on-demand content, and popular streaming apps like Disney+ and Netflix, Sky is now shifting its focus towards internet-based products like the Sky Stream box and Sky Glass TV, signaling a move away from its traditional satellite-powered platform. This shift may pave the way for a new competitor to enter the market.
Humax has introduced a new product named the Aura EZ 4K TV Recorder, which closely resembles the key functionalities of Sky Q. Equipped with a 2TB hard drive similar to Sky’s flagship model, the Aura EZ offers ample storage for TV shows, movies, and sports events. The inclusion of internal storage in a time when physical recording options are dwindling makes this device a noteworthy release.
In addition to aerial recordings, the Aura EZ leverages Freely technology, allowing users to stream live TV over broadband. Developed by the creators of Freeview, Freely provides access to over 60 live channels and a vast library of on-demand content. This feature enables easy relocation of the device, simplified installation, and regular software updates.
The Aura EZ boasts 4K HDR picture quality, Dolby Digital Plus audio, and a built-in TV guide showcasing current and upcoming programs. Users can conveniently manage the box remotely using the Humax Aura EZ smartphone app, facilitating schedule browsing and recording management from any location.
While Freely may not offer the same premium sports and movie content as Sky, it stands out for being free to use without any subscription fees.
Set to launch in the UK in February 2026 with a retail price of £249, the Humax Aura EZ brings a new alternative to the market as Sky unveils its latest upgrade. Sky’s new subscription bundle combines major streaming services, including Disney+, Netflix, Hayu, and the upcoming HBO Max, under a single reduced monthly fee of £24. The bundle is designed to offer value by consolidating multiple streaming platforms into one subscription, with Ultimate TV plan subscribers gaining access to over 130 premium channels like Sky Comedy, Sky Documentaries, Sky Crime, and Sky History.
Moreover, Sky Cinema customers will benefit from a new Disney movie channel integrated into the TV guide as part of the bundle. The package includes Netflix Standard with Ads, Disney+ Standard with Ads starting in March, HBO Max Basic with Ads launching on March 26, Hayu available from July (with select content accessible from March), and over 130 Sky channels.
