Sky has introduced two new smart home plans in the UK that include internet-connected cameras and cloud recordings starting at £5 per month. The company claims this pricing could save consumers over £100 compared to purchasing a Ring system from Amazon.
The first plan, priced at £5 per month with a £15 upfront fee, offers a Sky Smart Doorbell and Chime. It includes features such as full HD video recording, instant alerts to your phone, customizable activity zones, two-way talk, and 30 days of cloud video storage.
For added security, there is the Smart Home Bundle with Smart Home Plan+ at £8 per month with a £20 upfront fee. This package includes an indoor camera and additional app features like scheduled arming and automatic arm modes.
Sky’s Managing Director of Sky Smart Home, Paul Sweeney, stated that the goal of Sky Smart Home is to provide high-quality smart technology that is user-friendly, easy to manage, and affordable, making it effortless for customers to stay connected to their homes.
These new plans aim to expand the availability of Sky’s home security devices beyond their previous offering of Protect Smart Home Insurance, which bundled cameras and alarms. Now, customers can purchase Sky Smart Home products as standalone services for the first time.
In comparison, Amazon currently sells the Ring Doorbell with Chime for £119.99, with an additional cost for cloud recording access through a Ring Protect subscription starting at £4.99 per month.
