The BRIT Awards revealed the winner of the Critics’ Choice accolade, backed by BBC Radio 1. Jacob Alon, Rose Grey, and Sienna Spiro were nominated for the prestigious award. Jacob Alon, a Scottish singer, emerged victorious this year, known for tracks like “Fairy in a Bottle” and “Don’t Fall Asleep” from their debut album, “In Limerence.” The announcement was made by Radio 1’s Jack Saunders on the new Music show.
Expressing gratitude, Jacob attributed their success to the critics for acknowledging their work. Growing up in Scotland, Jacob reflected on the limitations of dreaming in their small town and expressed joy in achieving this recognition.
Stacey Tang, Chair of the 2026 BRIT Awards Committee, commended Jacob’s talent and highlighted the significance of the Critics’ Choice award in propelling artists to success. Jacob’s journey began in Fife, where their talent for captivating audiences with storytelling and music was evident from a young age. Edinburgh’s folk scene played a crucial role in shaping Jacob’s identity as an artist, leading to their acclaimed debut album.
Amidst their musical evolution, Jacob blends folk influences with pop sensibilities, creating a unique sound that defies classification. The award ceremony will take place at Manchester’s Co-op Live on February 28, marking the first time in the awards’ history. The event will be broadcast on ITV and ITVX.
The Critics’ Choice award, introduced in 2008 to spotlight emerging British talents, follows strict eligibility criteria to support artists at pivotal stages of their careers. The accolade aims to provide visibility and recognition to promising acts who have not yet achieved significant chart success.
