Samsung TV owners in the UK are in for a complimentary upgrade that will bring an array of bonus content to enjoy. UKTV has announced that its popular free-to-air linear channels will soon be accessible on Samsung screens, allowing UK viewers to watch without the need for extra devices.
The channels will be streamed over the internet, eliminating the requirement for a traditional aerial setup. Samsung will introduce a dedicated section on its home screen to showcase content from the U streaming service, making it easier for users to discover and watch classic comedies, dramas, and factual shows without navigating through menus.
In the upcoming months, channels like U&DRAMA, U&Dave, U&YESTERDAY, U&W, and U&eden will be directly accessible through Samsung’s Universal Guide into the U app. Samsung estimates that millions of its TVs will receive the update, placing the channels in the Live tab and Universal Guide to ensure easy access to UKTV’s live and on-demand content for viewers relying on internet-based TV.
Jonathan Newman, the General Manager of Commercial at UKTV and BBC Studios UK and Ireland, emphasized that the new agreement with Samsung strengthens their existing partnership. Dan Harvie, Samsung UK and Ireland’s Vice President of Home Entertainment and Appliances, highlighted the importance of UKTV in enhancing the entertainment offerings on Samsung TVs.
While the specific launch date has not been disclosed, the enhanced features are anticipated to roll out on Samsung TVs soon. Samsung aims to enhance the viewing experience for customers by offering a wide range of broadcast content through partnerships like the one with UKTV, aligning with its commitment to innovation and delivering a comprehensive entertainment ecosystem.
