Tennis icon Roger Federer has joined the exclusive billionaire club, adding to his wealth after retiring in 2019. With 20 Grand Slam singles titles under his belt, Federer’s fortune now exceeds $1.1 billion (£813 million), as reported by Forbes.
His financial success stems from lucrative endorsements, appearances, and business ventures, surpassing earnings of fellow tennis stars Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal. A significant contributor to Federer’s billionaire status is his ownership stake in Swiss footwear and apparel brand On.
Partnering with On in 2019, Federer holds around three percent of the company, which saw a substantial increase in value following its listing on the New York Stock Exchange, now reaching close to $15 billion (£11.1 billion). This stake alone is estimated to be worth over $375 million (£277.3 million).
Additionally, Federer earned approximately $1 billion (£739 million) from sponsorship deals with renowned brands like Lindt, Mercedes-Benz, Rolex, Moet & Chandon, Nike, and Uniqlo. He becomes the eighth athlete to achieve billionaire status, following in the footsteps of notable sports figures such as Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, LeBron James, Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Tiger Woods, and the late Junior Bridgeman.
