A renowned horse racing jockey is under scrutiny following a public incident where he made offensive remarks. Noel Callow, known as ‘the King’, boasts an impressive track record of over 2,000 victories, including five at the prestigious Group 1 level, accumulating a substantial sum exceeding £20 million in earnings in Australia.
Callow had recently served a two-month suspension due to a physical altercation with another jockey, resulting from an incident instigated by Callow himself in May of this year. An Australian horse racing publication, Racenet reported that the Queensland Racing Integrity Commission is currently reviewing a video, allegedly recorded last year, involving Callow.
A spokesperson from the QRIC stated, “A video has been brought to our attention and is now the subject of an investigation.”
Racenet has viewed two video clips, one showing Callow engaging with an indigenous man, during which he is overheard making derogatory comments. In response to the man’s circumstances, Callow is heard saying, “Have you showered? You stink like hell.”
The man reveals he is unemployed and homeless, declining Callow’s offer of food by requesting a beer instead.
Callow responds by offering a beer if the man agrees to shower, to which the man replies that he lacks access to a shower in his area.
In another clip, Callow, carrying a whip, is seen riding his bike on the sidewalk behind pedestrians.
After a pedestrian warns Callow about his biking, Callow responds with offensive language towards the pedestrians he encounters.
