Freddy Brazier recently shared his struggles with addiction and manic episodes, revealing that he was hospitalized under the Mental Health Act. The youngest son of the late reality TV star Jade Goody, now 20, disclosed that he started using marijuana at the age of 12. He also discussed his complex relationship with his father, Jeff Brazier, and expressed concerns about his grandmother Jackiey’s well-being.
In a preview of his upcoming podcast set to launch soon, Freddy mentioned his early exposure to substance abuse, stating, “I’ve been smoking since I was 12. I’ve been to rehab, I’ve been sectioned, I’ve had manic episodes. There’s been a real journey and it’s been a tough one.”
Freddy was just four years old when his mother, Jade Goody, passed away from cervical cancer in 2009. Despite the passage of time, Freddy still holds fond memories of his mother, as evidenced by a photo he shared showing Jade embracing him and his brother Bobby, 22, during their childhood.
Reflecting on his bond with his grandmother Jackiey, Freddy revealed, “My nan was definitely the person who not only introduced me to weed but got me hooked. I feel like if I didn’t prioritize the relationship with my mum’s mum… I was scared that if I wasn’t around her, she’d kill herself.”
Over the past year, Freddy’s relationship with his father Jeff has faced challenges, notably following Freddy’s decision to move out and live with his grandmother. However, the father-son duo is now actively working on reconciling and strengthening their connection.
In June, Freddy announced his intention to seek rehabilitation to address his substance abuse issues and mend familial ties. He expressed his desire for happiness and healthy relationships within his family circle. Psychologist Emma Kenny commended Freddy for his courage in sharing his personal struggles, emphasizing the importance of acknowledging and healing from past trauma.
Emma also praised Freddy’s bravery in discussing his experiences with substance abuse and being sectioned, highlighting his resilience and ability to transform moments of fear into messages of hope. She emphasized the significance of addressing grief and trauma to facilitate healing and personal growth.
