Doctors are puzzled by the simultaneous diagnosis of an ultra-rare condition in twins, eight years apart. Wendy Watkins and her husband, Chris Watkins, from Cottingham, East Yorkshire, were overjoyed when their twins, Riley and Noah, were born healthy in March 2012. However, five years later, Riley started showing stroke-like symptoms, leading to a diagnosis of a brain tumor and moyamoya disease. Shockingly, in January of the following year, Noah began displaying the same symptoms, prompting concerns and further medical investigations.

Moyamoya disease, a rare cerebrovascular disorder, was identified in both twins, with Riley undergoing successful surgeries to address the condition. The twins’ journey has been challenging, with supportive care from organizations like The Sick Children’s Trust. Despite uncertainties about the condition’s genetic link, the family remains positive and actively raises awareness about moyamoya disease through a Facebook support group.

The Watkins family continues to seek answers and support, emphasizing the importance of regular medical monitoring for the twins. Their story sheds light on the complexities and challenges faced by individuals with rare medical conditions, inspiring efforts to increase awareness and understanding within the community.
