A pub in West Dublin was targeted by a masked gunman last night, but quick-thinking patrons intervened to prevent any shots from being fired. Gardai responded to the incident at The 79 Inn in Ballyfermot after receiving reports of a man entering the establishment armed with a gun. Witnesses stated that customers inside the pub thwarted the gunman’s attempt to shoot by throwing a bar stool at him.

The individual believed to be the target managed to escape as the brave patrons subdued the assailant, who was wearing a balaclava, before fleeing the scene. Gardai swiftly arrived in the area following the incident, which is said to have stemmed from a verbal altercation earlier in the evening. Authorities confirmed that they are investigating the situation at the licensed premises in Ballyfermot, Dublin 10, on Saturday, January 10, 2026.

According to Dublin Live, no injuries were reported during the incident, and the police are conducting ongoing inquiries. A spokesperson for the garda reassured the public, saying, “No injuries have been reported. Enquiries are ongoing.”
