The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has provided details on the amount individuals are set to receive for this year’s Winter Fuel Payment. If eligible, recipients can expect to receive between £100 and £300 in their bank accounts during November and December. This benefit is specifically for pensioners born before September 22, 1959.

Individuals earning above £35,000 may need to repay the Winter Fuel Payment through the tax system unless they choose to opt out. The income criteria for this payment are calculated on a per-person basis. For instance, in a scenario where one partner earns £30,000 and the other earns £40,000, one individual will retain their share of the payment while the other would have to repay it.

The amount received depends on the recipient’s age during the qualifying week and if they or anyone they reside with claims benefits. Individuals aged 80 or above or living alone generally qualify for the higher payment amount. The qualifying week for this winter is scheduled from September 15 to 21, 2025.

Those not claiming Pension Credit, Universal Credit, Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA), Income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA), or Income Support will receive a specific payment. If partners jointly claim any of these benefits, one of them will receive a payment. Similarly, if someone receives these benefits individually, they will get a specific payment.

In cases where individuals living in care homes are eligible, they will also receive a designated payment amount.
