Police suspect that a pensioner who went missing was murdered for a small sum of money. Maria Matilde Mu Cazorla, 72, disappeared after staying at the Bumi Aditya hotel in Senggigi, Lombok, Indonesia. A message with spelling errors was sent from her phone claiming she was in Laos. Her disappearance was reported weeks later, leading to an investigation in Indonesia. Clothes and belongings of hers were found in a hotel waste area, but her phone, bank cards, and passport were missing.
Two local men, aged 30 and 34, were arrested on suspicion of premeditated murder and robbery. They confessed to the crime, leading authorities to discover Maria’s body buried on Batu Bolong Beach near the hotel. The suspects, one a former hotel employee dismissed for theft, allegedly sold her phone on the black market.
Investigators believe that the motive for the murder was the inability to access Maria’s debit card, with only £135 in local currency missing from her possessions. Concerns have been raised about possible accomplices, including individuals involved in the hotel’s accounts.
