The grieving parents of a young expert featured on This Morning, who passed away at the age of 19, are urging for ADHD screenings in schools to prevent similar tragedies.
Matthew Lock, a talented teenager and active Labour councillor, sadly lost his life in 2023 due to struggles with alcohol and ketamine addiction associated with his undiagnosed ADHD. Despite their efforts to seek help, Matthew’s parents, Richard and Christine, stress the importance of early detection of ADHD in children, as it went unnoticed for years in their son, impacting his mental health.
In an interview with The Mirror, Christine expressed the urgency of preventing more youth from experiencing poor mental health outcomes by enhancing awareness and support for ADHD. She emphasized the need for better communication and understanding, citing the difficulties they faced in comprehending Matthew’s struggles.
Following Matthew’s passing, his parents established the Matthew Lock ADHD Charity to address the lengthy diagnostic process and shed light on the challenges posed by ADHD. They advocate for digital screening tools in educational settings and improved training for healthcare providers to ensure timely assistance for thousands of children affected by the condition.

Describing Matthew as a vibrant community member with a passion for vacuum cleaners and community service, Christine believed her son had a promising future before his impulsive death in 2019.
