A mother and her daughter engaged in a violent altercation with another woman in broad daylight in front of her seven-year-old child following a heated argument. Carlean Brown, aged 41, and her daughter Brodie-Leigh Brown, aged 22, assaulted the victim in an aggressive and prolonged attack on Tarbock Road in Speke, Liverpool, on October 13, 2024. Video footage from a Ring doorbell shown in Liverpool Crown Court captured the initial confrontation between Brodie-Leigh, her neighbor Madina Wady, and the subsequent physical altercation.
The conflict escalated rapidly, leading to Brodie-Leigh forcefully pulling Ms. Wady to the ground where they grappled while Ms. Wady’s son witnessed the distressing scene. Additional footage revealed Carlean Brown joining the fray by kicking Ms. Wady on the head twice while she was still on the ground.
According to reports from the Liverpool Echo, Brodie-Leigh was reported to have scratched Ms. Wady’s eyes and struck her in the face during the altercation, as stated by prosecutor Ian Criddle in court. The incident began when Brodie-Leigh started being verbally abusive in the street, provoking a response from Ms. Wady before the situation turned violent.
Criddle explained, “The victim, accompanied by her son, encountered Brodie-Leigh Brown outside her residence. Brodie-Leigh initiated the altercation with abusive language, which was reciprocated by Ms. Wady. Subsequently, Brodie-Leigh was observed approaching Ms. Wady in the footage, leading to a physical confrontation in the street.”
He further detailed Carlean Brown’s involvement, mentioning her emergence from the house carrying what appeared to be a pole or a hammer, which she placed on the ground before participating in the assault on Ms. Wady. Following the attack, the mother and daughter destroyed Ms. Wady’s mobile phone and threw her bag on the ground.
The victim felt compelled to leave Tarbock Road due to the incident, as she was concerned for her son’s safety after witnessing his mother being attacked. Carlean Brown, from Newman Street, Kirkdale, admitted guilt to assault causing bodily harm, criminal damage, and possessing an offensive weapon. Brodie-Leigh Brown, residing in Upton Green, Speke, pleaded guilty to assault and criminal damage, with no prior criminal record.
Brodie-Leigh Brown received an 18-month community order and 15 rehabilitation days as her sentence. Judge Simon Medland described the violence as “unpleasant and unnecessary,” emphasizing the impact on the victim and her son. Carlean Brown was handed a suspended six-month prison sentence, along with 30 rehabilitation days. Both women were ordered to compensate the victim £120 and received restraining orders against contacting her.
