Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri were disqualified from the Las Vegas Grand Prix due to a technical breach. The McLaren team’s cars failed post-race inspections in Sin City, as the planks beneath them were found to be thinner than the required 9mm minimum thickness. This indicated an illegal low ride height, resulting in their disqualification from the final standings.
This development is significant in the championship race, with Max Verstappen emerging victorious in the Las Vegas event. Following the disqualification of Norris and Piastri, Verstappen is now tied on points with Piastri and trails championship leader Norris by 24 points, with two races left in the season.
Both McLaren drivers faced a hearing with stewards, which lasted over an hour and concluded in the early hours of the morning after the Grand Prix ended. Norris, who started on pole but finished second after losing ground to Verstappen, expressed disappointment with his performance before learning of the disqualification.
Despite his efforts to recover positions during the race, Norris acknowledged that the team lacked the pace to challenge Verstappen. He admitted making a mistake at the first corner but praised Red Bull for their strong performance. Looking ahead to future races, Norris expressed a desire to improve and bounce back in the upcoming events.
