Homes looking to enjoy television content without the burden of a monthly subscription now have a wider array of choices available. Initially introduced in 2024, Freely emerged as a platform offering live channel access through a broadband connection, initially limited to select new TV models. However, in the past 18 months, the lineup of televisions supporting Freely has expanded, with manufacturers like Hisense, Toshiba, and Sharp now onboard. Previously, individuals interested in accessing live and on-demand content via Freely had to purchase a new television from a tech retailer.

Fortunately, a recent development by Manhattan’s technology team has changed this scenario. They have introduced a new Freely-enabled set-top box called the Aero 4K, designed to bring this service to existing TVs in households. The Aero 4K device provides users with immediate access to over 60 live channels and on-demand content, all accessible free of charge without the need for a costly subscription.

Noteworthy features of the Aero 4K box include voice search functionality, personalized viewing recommendations, a comprehensive TV guide, and the ability to pause live programming. Additionally, users who are subscribed to platforms like Disney+ and Netflix can also access these applications through the device.

Priced at £69.99, the Aero 4K has gained significant popularity amongst consumers. Currys has become the first UK retailer to offer the Manhattan Aero 4K, and the latest update indicates that it is currently “out of stock.” The retailer confirmed this information and reassured customers that the device will be restocked soon.

Interested buyers can register their email address on the Currys website to receive alerts when the Aero 4K is available again. Furthermore, other retailers such as Amazon and John Lewis are expected to start selling the device in the near future.

Once back in stock, the Aero 4K will compete against devices like Virgin’s Stream box and Sky Stream, eliminating the need for traditional aerials or dishes by delivering shows, sports, and movies directly over the internet.

Transitioning to streaming services offers advantages such as easier installation processes without the need for technician visits and more frequent software updates.

The television landscape is evolving rapidly, with Freely recently announcing a user base exceeding one million. This trend indicates a growing shift from traditional viewing methods towards streaming platforms.
