A man in his twenties is on the verge of imprisonment for deceiving individuals into entrusting him with the care of their pets, as authorities uncovered 37 deceased dogs at a residence. Oaveed Rahman, 26, pleaded guilty to causing unnecessary suffering to animals and committing 11 counts of fraudulent activities during his appearance at Basildon Crown Court. The cruelty charge pertains to mistreatment involving 21 dogs and a cat.
The discovery of the deceased dogs occurred during a collaborative inspection at a property in Crays Hill, Billericay, led by law enforcement officers along with personnel from the RSPCA and Basildon Council in May last year. Inspector Steve Parry, head of the Basildon Neighbourhood Policing Team, acknowledged the distress within the local community due to the investigation’s nature and emphasized the significance of addressing concerns raised by residents.
Rahman’s appalling treatment of the animals under his care, coupled with his fraudulent solicitations for financial support from community members, has triggered outrage. The sentencing for Rahman is scheduled for next month, following his admission of guilt under the weight of the evidence amassed against him. The collaborative efforts of the investigative team, supported by information shared by the public, played a pivotal role in securing the conviction.
The sentencing hearing for Rahman is set for February 20, with updates available via email subscription for the latest developments.
