A tragic incident unfolded on a prominent street in south London this week as a man lost his life in a collision involving a police vehicle, according to updates from emergency services. The unfortunate event took place at approximately 12:35 am on Borough High Street in South London, where the victim, believed to be in his 30s, was struck. The area was sealed off following the accident until around 9 am, leading to diversions for six bus routes. Despite swift assistance from the London Ambulance Service (LAS) and police, the man succumbed to his injuries.
The case has now been transferred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC). A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police recounted the sequence of events: “During the early hours of Wednesday, January 7, a marked police vehicle, responding to an emergency call, collided with a pedestrian on Borough High Street, Southwark.”
The pedestrian, a man in his 30s, received immediate aid from officers and LAS paramedics on-site but tragically could not be saved. The deceased’s family has been informed, with specialized officers providing support. The incident is under review by both the Met’s Directorate of Professional Standards and the IOPC, ensuring a thorough investigation. The London Ambulance Service shared their account of the response: “We received a call at 12:34 am on Wednesday, January 7, regarding a road traffic incident on Borough High Street, Borough. Our team, including ambulance and paramedic units, quickly arrived at the location. Despite our best efforts, the patient was pronounced dead at the scene.”
