Jody Jamieson, the driver, and his horse Fifth and Five emerged victorious in the 67th edition of the Gold Cup and Saucer race held in Charlottetown on Saturday night. This win holds a special significance for Jamieson as his father also clinched victory in the same race back in 2006. Expressing his elation, Jamieson described the win as a dream come true, emphasizing the prestige of this race compared to others he has won.
The Gold Cup and Saucer race, featuring a purse of $100,000, attracts participants from various parts of North America to the Red Shores Racetrack and Casino annually. Jamieson, who has been following this race since his early years, recalled his fondness for his father’s 2006 win with Banner Yankee. However, this victory with Fifth and Five has now surpassed that memory, making it his favorite in the history of races.
During the race, Jamieson maintained his strategy of closely trailing the horse and driver in the first post position, indicating that he sensed the possibility of crossing the finish line first halfway down the stretch. With a winning time of 1:49.4, Fifth and Five met all of Jamieson’s criteria for a successful racehorse, being well-suited to the track and displaying excellent behavior.
Following the race, as Jamieson and his team celebrated in the winners’ circle, he expressed his overwhelming joy, stating that the victory was indeed a dream come true. Overwhelmed with emotions, Jamieson conveyed his uncertainty about returning to reality anytime soon, emphasizing the sheer bliss of the moment.
