Performance issues are a common concern among users of older iPhone models. Over time, devices tend to slow down, particularly after Apple releases its annual iOS update in September. However, a significant change is anticipated in 2026.
Recently unveiled at WWDC in California, iOS 27 introduces various enhancements such as an upgraded Siri assistant, improved Apple Intelligence, enhanced photo editing tools, and new customization options for the visually striking Liquid Glass design. Notably, Apple is also touting a substantial performance enhancement.
Apple claims that iOS 27 will enable apps to launch up to 30% faster, enhancing the overall user experience. Furthermore, the tech giant assures that photo loading speeds across devices will increase by up to 70%, and AirDrop transfers will be up to 80% quicker.
Excitingly, these improvements are not limited to the latest iPhone 17 Pro Max. Through a feature known as the CPU scheduler, even older models like the iPhone 11 and iPhone 12 will experience improved speed and fluidity.
The CPU scheduler optimizes performance by prioritizing the app currently in use on the screen, rather than allocating power to all background processes. This dynamic adjustment of performance levels aims to provide users with a smoother and more efficient device experience.
While the actual impact remains to be seen, Apple expresses confidence that these enhancements will prolong the usability of aging devices, potentially eliminating the need to upgrade iPhones that are still in good working condition.
Apple elaborated, “Improvements across platforms elevate key system functionalities, resulting in faster, smoother, and more enjoyable everyday tasks.” Although an exact release date is pending, iOS 27 is anticipated to be available in September.
