Heathrow Airport will raise its drop-off charge for the “kiss and fly” service by 16% starting January 1. The current fee of £6 will increase to £7, with a maximum stay of 10 minutes before risking an £80 parking charge notice.
A spokesperson for the airport stated that this adjustment aligns Heathrow’s Terminal drop-off charge with other major UK airports, supporting sustainability efforts to reduce congestion and promote public transport usage. Free drop-off and pick-up options are still available at all terminals through Park & Ride car parks.
Travel expert Guy Hobbs from Which? expressed concern over the price hike and time limit, highlighting free drop-off options at alternative long stay car parks across major UK airports. Heathrow reported that 95% of passengers complete their drop-offs within the 10-minute limit, aiming to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion.
The airport emphasized that the drop-off fee contributes to investments in bus, rail, and sustainable transport initiatives while encouraging environmentally friendly travel choices. Heathrow’s website provides convenient drop-off locations outside each terminal, offering payment options for single or multiple drop-offs online or by phone.
Recent financial reports indicated a 2% revenue increase to £2.7 billion in the first nine months of 2025 for Heathrow, driven by long-haul flights and premium services. Despite a slight profit decrease to £1.5 billion, the airport remains financially robust.
Unlike some UK airports, Heathrow’s drop-off area does not allow passenger pick-ups, directing such activities to its car parks with minimal charges for 30 minutes of parking. This fee adjustment follows a trend among busy airports, with many increasing drop-off charges in 2025, as reported by the RAC in July.
While UK airports escalate drop-off fees, most European airports offer complimentary drop-off services, according to the RAC. Research revealed price hikes at 11 of the 20 top airports based on 2024 passenger numbers, with notable increases at Belfast City Airport. The report highlighted London Luton and Manchester as among the priciest airports for drop-offs based on cost per minute.
