A popular TV personality has expressed heightened caution in light of recent controversies surrounding the BBC. Alex Gray, known as Apollo from the upcoming revival of Gladiators, emphasized the weight of responsibility that accompanies his role on the show.

When asked about his presence on dating apps, Gray acknowledged a surge in attention but stressed his increased vigilance. He emphasized his commitment to upholding the image of Apollo while maintaining personal integrity off-screen.

The Guardian’s Helen Pitt highlighted the stringent regulations in place for all Gladiators to prevent any potential scandals. She pointed out the necessity for a clean image, especially after past incidents involving other BBC programs like MasterChef.

Last year, Gregg Wallace was removed from MasterChef following an extensive investigation into multiple allegations of misconduct. The inquiry confirmed numerous complaints, primarily related to inappropriate behavior and language. Wallace expressed regret for any distress caused and denied any intention to harm or embarrass others.

Similarly, co-host John Torode faced allegations of using offensive language, resulting in his removal from his position. Torode denied recollection of the incident and emphasized his stance against racial language, expressing shock at the accusation.

Strictly Come Dancing also faced its share of controversies, including clashes between contestants and alleged drug use. The BBC initiated an investigation into drug-related claims, with ongoing efforts to address the issue.

In a separate incident, Strictly contestant Wynne Evans apologized for making inappropriate comments during the show’s tour. The BBC clarified its zero-tolerance policy towards such behavior, even though no formal complaints were lodged.

To enhance participant welfare, the BBC introduced chaperones in Strictly rehearsal spaces in 2024. This move aimed to address concerns about contestant well-being, prompted in part by publicized conflicts between cast members.

Overall, the entertainment industry continues to navigate challenges related to maintaining professional standards and ensuring a safe and respectful environment for all involved.
