A tragic incident at a wedding reception in Pakistan has resulted in the loss of at least eight lives, including the bride and groom. The reception was being held at a residence in Islamabad, the country’s capital, on Sunday, leading to a partial collapse of the building due to a gas cylinder explosion. Authorities reported that seven individuals sustained injuries in the incident.
The explosion took place in a residential area in the center of the city, prompting a thorough investigation by the police to determine the cause. Deputy Commissioner General Sahibzada Yousaf confirmed the completion of the rescue operation, ensuring that no one was left trapped under the debris. Sniffer dogs were utilized during the search to locate and recover all victims.
Yousaf stated, “Three houses were completely demolished, and a fourth sustained partial damage. The structural integrity of neighboring properties is also being assessed to mitigate any potential risks.” Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed sorrow over the tragic loss of life and extended condolences to the affected families. He instructed health authorities to provide top-notch medical care to the injured and called for a comprehensive inquiry into the incident. Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi also conveyed heartfelt sympathies to the families of the deceased.
In Pakistan, many households rely on liquefied petroleum gas cylinders due to inadequate natural gas pressure, leading to an association with lethal accidents stemming from gas leaks. Authorities confirmed that investigations into the matter are ongoing.
