Amanda Holden has expressed her thoughts on how her colleagues, Ant and Dec from Britain’s Got Talent, might feel about losing at The National Television Awards. Gary Lineker ended their 23-year winning streak in the Best TV Presenter category during the event on Wednesday night.
During his acceptance speech, the 64-year-old humorously referred to winning the “Ant and Dec award.” He emphasized the importance of using one’s platform to advocate for those without a voice, acknowledging the significance of his victory.
Gary’s win came after his first nomination in the category, competing against Stacey Solomon, Claudia Winkleman, and Alison Hammond. Amanda, discussing the outcome on the Heart Radio Breakfast Show, mentioned that Ant and Dec are likely unfazed by the loss, congratulating Gary on his win.
In response, Jamie Theakston commented on the situation, noting that the duo probably isn’t too concerned about the defeat. Amanda agreed, mentioning that although Ant and Dec may not be bothered, they are happy for Gary as they are “such lovely boys.”
Ant and Dec, who were absent from the London ceremony due to filming in South Africa, released a video addressing the outcome. They thanked their supporters for voting for I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!, even though they did not win the Best Presenter category, humorously acknowledging Gary Lineker as the new “whippersnapper” champion.
Despite the loss, I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! received the award for Best Reality Competition. Campmate Coleen Rooney expressed gratitude for the recognition, calling it an amazing achievement in a competitive category.
Other winners included Strictly Come Dancing for Best Talent Show, EastEnders for Serial Drama, and Molly-Mae for the Authored Documentary award. The Netflix series Adolescence also received two awards, one for New Drama and another for the young star Owen Cooper in Drama Performance.
This Morning hosts became emotional on stage as they accepted the Daytime Award, finally winning after missing out on the prize for two consecutive years.
