Vicente Modahl, a former coach for the Olympics who collaborated with British Team GB athletes, faces charges linked to alleged child sexual offenses and rape. The 65-year-old individual, originally from Norway and married to ex-Olympic middle-distance runner Diane Modahl, is accused of two instances of child rape and five cases of child sexual assault.

Identified as Jose Vicente Leiva-Modahl, Modahl had previously resided in the United Kingdom. Besides the aforementioned charges, he is also facing allegations of two incidents involving inducing a child into sexual activity and two cases of child penetration assault.

According to the Crown Prosecution Service, Modahl is being charged with a total of 19 offenses spanning from 2012 to 2024, which include two counts of adult female rape, two counts of adult female sexual assault, one count of inducing an adult female into sexual activity, two counts of adult female penetration assault, and one count of controlling and coercive behavior.

James Bolton-Smith, Deputy Chief Crown Prosecutor for the CPS’s Organised Child Sexual Abuse Unit, stated, “The Crown Prosecution Service has opted to prosecute Vicente Leiva-Modahl for numerous severe sexual offenses, particularly those related to child sexual abuse.” Modahl is scheduled to appear in Manchester Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

Bolton-Smith added, “Our prosecutors have meticulously reviewed the evidence to ensure a strong case for court proceedings and have determined that pursuing criminal charges is in the public interest. We have collaborated closely with the Greater Manchester Police during their investigative process.”

Throughout his professional journey, Modahl has coached both British and international athletes, including notable Team GB members and at least one Olympic gold medalist, over multiple decades. Additionally, his LinkedIn profile highlights his involvement as a FIFA-licensed sports agent.

A statement from the CPS emphasized, “It is crucial to respect the active legal proceedings against the defendant and acknowledge their right to a fair trial. Any dissemination of information, opinions, or comments online that could potentially bias these proceedings must be avoided.”
